StumbleBumps Unite Sprint Blog 2

Now that I’m more familiar with how game production works, I was tasked with some trickier projects this time around. The first thing I did was sketch out the scoreboard. Unlike the other sketches I did, this is the first one where I had to directly reference what the wireframes had in mind. After some thinking and studying, I was able to make a sketch that I and my leaders were proud of.

The next task I was assigned too was one that I was looking forward to. While I had sketched some concept ideas for buttons, this was my first time truly making some more stylized assets. I played around with gradients, shapes, and even some layer blending tools to get everything to look right, and I absolutely adore how everything turned out. I admit I still have a ways to go with this, as the shapes themselves could look more symmetrical, and the text could be better spread out, but that’s something that can always be improved upon at a future date.

The last task was admittedly quite a difficult one, and it will be further expanded on in the next sprint. As mentioned in sprint 1, the leaders wanted to incorporate my handwriting into the game as a custom font. This was the sprint where I needed to not only get the characters finished, but to also begin rasterizing them. I referenced the apple iphone keyboard to get a good idea on what characters I needed to do. After a while, I got to work and laid down everything I needed to do on a single document. Once I was finished, I imported the document onto Adobe Illustrator. I then successfully rasterized the characters and gave the Illustrator document to Donovan. He stated that I did a good job, even though some of the special characters I made wouldn’t be used in the final game. Despite the toughness, I believe I did a good job with the beginning of the font creation process.

With sprint 3 around the corner, my goal is to fix my errors from the previous sprints, and aim to make not only better assets, but also higher quality writing for the font. I strongly believe I will be able to fully create said font for the game, and make it easily accessible for everyone to use. It won’t be easy, as it will be an entirely new skill that I will have to learn, but this is a type of challenge that’s familiar to me. I’ve learned a lot of new skills during my time in this production, and I look forward to whatever challenges my leaders will give me to conquer successfully.
