Robot Riot Sprint Blog 1

Much like StumbleBumps Unite, I was assigned to do the 2D art for Robot Riot. The first sprint involved a ton of work, but I was able to get all of my required tasks done in a timely manner. This is also the second and last project I will be doing for CAGD; as I will be graduating later this year. However, I will strive to make my role in this project the best it will be.

The first tasks that I did was create 2D art of the powerups/weapons. They will be put into unity later on to act as sprites for the item that they represent.

Out of all the sprites I worked on, the most difficult ones were the lazer gun and the balloon sword. For the balloon sword, I struggled with getting the shape itself looking alright. But after looking at the balloon sword 3D model, I was able to get it to look good. I also struggled with the lazer gun, mostly because I don’t usually draw items like that. It took some trial and error, but I managed to get it to look right in the end. For these sprites, I decided to utilize colored lineart, and it ended up being received very positively. Overall, I’m quite proud of these assets, and I’m excited to see what they’ll look like in the game.

The other things I worked on for this sprint was creating the menu UIs. I was tasked with working on the title screen, the credits screen, and the game over scene. I used illustrator to get a cleaner look, and I’m proud of what came from it.

Overall, I am quite happy with how this first sprint went. I still have a lot to learn about being in a game production, but with this and StumbleBumps Unite, I feel like I’m learning a lot about team work and game making as a whole. I am grateful to be accepted into this class, and I foresee a wonderful project in the future.
