StumbleBumps Unite Sprint Blog 6

This sprint is perhaps the most fun I’ve had with any sprint this entire project. The main task I had to complete was making the main poster for StumbleBumps Unite. As stated in the last blog, I drew up some concept art for the poster. After showing them to Donovan, he approved the third concept artwork I presented to him, and I began to truly expand upon said artwork. I was even able to correct the aspect ratio required for the project.

The next step for me was to create a logo that could go not only smoothly on the poster, but it would also be used for the website that will promote this game. I wanted to go for a comic-book like effect with this logo, so I opened up Illustrator to help me out and get everything as smooth as possible. I still have some work to do with the logo, such as making some tiny adjustments, but I’m quite proud of what I have so far!

Once I got the logo figured out, I moved on with the rest of the poster. I was informed at this time that I had misremembered the StumbleBumps’ appearances, so I was sent a reference in order to properly capture their appearances. I also moved onto coloring not only the StumbleBumps themselves, but also the props that would appear on the poster itself. I then placed the Logo onto the poster itself, and the results ended up getting glowing approval from both Donovan and Micheal.

The last major thing I did for this sprint was not only add shading onto the poster, but also create an eye-catching background to go along with it. I was also tasked with adding the knitted yarn texture that the StumbleBumps notably have. This was not easy to do, as this was a complicated pattern. But after several attempts of trial and error, and a lot of studying, I managed to get something that reflected the softness of the texture. It also managed to reflect nicely with the toon style shading that I implemented onto the poster. As for the background, I went with a red to white gradient, so that it would be as attention grabbing as possible. Though after getting feedback from Donovan and Micheal, they both agreed that the background would be better if it was the bedroom from the game insead. But despite it all, I am beyond proud of what I accomplished with the whole poster process.

The next sprint will be our final sprint, and I have two major goals in mind: Finish the poster to be as beautiful as possible, and to fully refine the custom font that I have made. This will include adding changed onto the logo, such as editing the shape and making the title bigger, changing the background to the aforementioned bedroom, and making the font characters more unified for a cleaner look. This has been a tremendous learning experience for me, and I can only hope I can go out with a bang when we finish the game.
